Last year Social Security field offices cut the hours they were open to the public . But now with the 2015 budget, the offices will add an hour on most afternoons. The result is that, as of March 16, on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, local offices will be open until 4 p.m. They will continue to close to the public at noon on Wednesdays.
If you need service in person at Social Security, we recommend that you make an appointment first - call 1-800-772-1213 to make the appointment. This helps to reduce waiting time in their office. Also, usually the offices are less busy later in the week, and after the beginning -of-the-month rush.
