How do I know if my anxiety disorder will qualify me for Massachusetts Social Security Administration (SSA) disability benefits?

The first thing you should do, if you haven't already, is visit your doctor. Without medical documentation of your diagnosis and treatment, the SSA will not even consider your claim. If you have a long history of treatment for your condition and the prognosis shows that you cannot work, that is another step. If your medical records show that your condition has lasted or will last 12 months or more, you are getting closer to help.

The second thing you should do is visit the SSA disability website. There you will find an incredible amount of information about the disability program and the many qualifying conditions. However, this information can be both overwhelming and difficult to understand.

Third, you can file a claim online with the SSA. Most people begin this way, and between 20 and 30 percent find success. Unfortunately, the wait time can stretch into years for some. There is a huge backlog of cases to review and mental disorders can be especially difficult to prove. You may not have that kind of time.

We recommend that you contact a reputable New England disability lawyer for advice if you need help. Keefe Disability Law has a great track record in sorting out the complicated SSA disability application process and getting our clients benefits more quickly.
